Intersectionality – So you want to talk about race by Ijeoma Oluo
“Considering the needs of a select few is easier than for a diverse group of people”
“Work on the needs of the largest group first”
“Reach out to people you have not reached out to in the past”
Are we considering intersectionality?
How might race, gender, sexuality, ability or class impact this situation?
Could the identity differences between me and the person I’m talking with about race contribute to our differences in opinion or perspectives?
Are the people in my racial justice conversations truly representative of the diversity of the identities of those being impacted?
Does my scholarship of racial justice reflect the diversity of identities?
Who writes the books and articles that help inform my opinions?
Am I listening to those who are frequently not heard?
Am I looking for what i don’t know?
Am I shifting focus and power from those most privileged?
Am I making conversation accessible to everyone who wants to participate?
Am I providing a safe space for marginalized people to speak out?
