“For this event, they would only be allowed signage as described below. We will not issue permits for the signs, so they can put them up at their convenience as long as they comply with the guidelines below (e.g. 14 days prior to event, and taken down within 7 days after). The signs cannot be attached to utility poles. For the banner at Madison and East Avenue, it will have to be several feet back from the sidewalk to be outside of the right-of-way. The banner along the lake can’t be attached to the fence and would have to be on its own poles. The sandwich board would not be permitted where shown because the location is in right-of-way. That location might be tough… It would likely have to be placed behind the raised tree bed, further away from Madison Ave. Further, they would need to make sure it’s secured and won’t become mobile in high wind.
Sec. 94-42. Every sign or other street graphic enumerated below that complies with the indicated requirements may be erected in any zoning district of this municipality without a permit. Except for signs described in subsection 94-42(b) (Directional and informational signs) and subsection 94-42(e) (Governmental or public signs), such signs must be placed outside designated street rights-of-way, trail rights-of-way, or designated easements. Any signs within said rights-of-way or easements shall be removed or relocated immediately as directed by the zoning administrator. The area of said signs/street graphics shall not be debited against the displaying establishment’s sign area allowance.
(m) Public interest signs publicizing a charitable or nonprofit event of general public interest. In any residential district, such signs shall not exceed 16 square feet in area; elsewhere, such signs shall not exceed 32 square feet. Public interest signs shall be permitted only for 14 days before and seven days after the event.”
